SOFT WASHING VS. PRESSURE WASHING: WHICH ONE DOES YOUR SURFACE NEED?

Using the wrong method can shred a shingle or scar concrete. Here is the simple rule we use to match every surface to the right cleaning method.

Soft Washing vs. Pressure Washing: Which One Does Your Surface Need?

Pressure washing and soft washing are not interchangeable — and using the wrong one is how roofs lose granules, stucco gets scarred, and vinyl siding gets water forced behind it. The difference comes down to one question: does the surface need force, or does it need chemistry?

What Pressure Washing Does

Pressure washing uses high PSI water to physically blast away grime. It is the right call for durable, hard surfaces:

  • Concrete driveways and parking areas
  • Pavers and stone walkways
  • Loading docks and dumpster pads
  • Metal and industrial surfaces

Done right — with a surface cleaner rather than a single wand — it leaves a uniform, streak-free finish instead of the "zebra striping" you see on badly washed driveways.

What Soft Washing Does

Soft washing uses low pressure and specialized cleaning solutions that kill algae, mildew, moss, and bacteria at the source — not just blast the top layer off. It is the only safe method for:

  • Asphalt shingle and tile roofs
  • Stucco, EIFS, and Dryvit
  • Vinyl, cedar, and painted wood siding
  • Screens, screened porches, and outdoor fabrics

The black streaks on a roof are not dirt — they are a cyanobacteria colony. Pressure washing a roof removes the stain and the shingle granules with it. Soft washing kills the organism so the stain is gone and stays gone longer.

The Simple Rule

If water hitting the surface at full force would damage it, it needs soft washing. If the surface can take the hit, pressure washing is faster and more effective. And for the high stuff neither a ladder nor a lift should touch, drone-assisted cleaning brings both methods up to 200+ feet.

Every property we service gets a surface-by-surface assessment before a single drop of water is sprayed. That is the difference between cleaning a property and protecting it.
