IS DRONE CLEANING SAFE? WHAT FAA-COMPLIANT OPERATIONS MEAN FOR YOUR PROPERTY

A cleaning drone working up the side of your building should raise questions. Here is what certified, insured, FAA-compliant operations look like — and what to ask before hiring anyone.

Is Drone Cleaning Safe? What FAA-Compliant Operations Mean for Your Property

The idea of a drone spraying water high up the side of your building invites obvious questions. Is it safe near glass? Near guests, tenants, or customers? Could it damage the facade? The honest answer is that it is extremely safe — when the operator runs a certified, insured, FAA-compliant operation. Here is what that actually means.

What FAA Compliance Requires

  • Certified remote pilots. Commercial drone work legally requires the FAA's Part 107 certification — training and testing in airspace rules, weather, aircraft performance, and emergency procedures. Ask to see it.
  • Airspace planning. Much of East Tennessee sits near controlled airspace around regional and international airports. Flights there require FAA authorization and coordination, planned around altitudes, times, and surroundings.
  • Pre-flight procedures. A compliant operation starts with a site assessment, equipment checks, and weather minimums — wind, visibility, precipitation — before the drone ever leaves the ground.
  • Insurance. Drone work should carry liability coverage specific to the operation. Any professional will show you a certificate without blinking.

What It Means for Your Property

Compare that to the traditional alternatives: a boom lift in your arrival lane, scaffolding against the facade for weeks, or a rope-access crew working high above the ground. Drone-assisted cleaning removes all of it. The pilot works from the ground, precision nozzles put the right method on the right surface — pure water for glass, soft washing solutions for delicate substrates — and every flight is captured on camera, so the results are documented, not just promised.

Questions to Ask Any Operator

Are your pilots Part 107 certified? Can you show proof of insurance? What method will you use on my roof, my glass, my stucco? What happens if the weather turns mid-job? Good operators welcome every one of those questions — the ones who dodge them are the ones to avoid.

If your property has high-elevation surfaces you have been putting off, this is the safest way they have ever been cleaned.
